The winds of winter......

My mind raged with the happenings of the last few days...."Why Lord, do things like these have to happen?" As my eyes gazed out my window, the falling snow seemed to drive the gloom of my heart deeper and deeper.... until life seemed to be an all encompassing gray....."After all it's March...spring should be on it's way, Not another 5 inches of snow!" I fumed.  Then my thoughts turned back a few days, to a walk I went on, when I had found the first evidence of spring.....a little yellow buttercup! "Those  poor buttercups...." I thought. "Here they thought they could show their sweet little heads to a blue sky filled with the bright sunshine of spring, that would warm the earth around them and melt the cold snow away.....and now this!"

As my heart sympathized with those little buttercups...and how they must feel a little like the way I was feeling at the moment.....These well known Bible verses suddenly flashed through  my mind....making the pity party in mind come to a dead end..... Causing  me to look at the snow coming down out my window with a totally new perspective......

"I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. " Revelation 3:18

"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;...." 2 Corinthians 4:17

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."      Psalm 51:7

As I turned the pages of my Bible.....a little laminated bookmark fell out....and the words on it just made my joy full! :)

"This life at it's best is but the Christian's winter; and the bleak winds of winter--disappointments, losses, pain, and anguish--are our lot here; but our hopes are reaching forward to the Christian's summer, when we shall change climate, leave all the wintery blasts and fierce tempests behind, and be taken to those mansions Jesus has gone to prepare for those that love Him." Life sketches 239,240

As my eyes again turned to the window...... and I again saw the picture it framed.... of the snow gently falling..... clinging to the the earth.....a smile came to my face....my heart overflowed with peace! :)

And a sweet chorus came to my lips......

"But until then my heart will go on singing, Until then with joy I'll carry on Until the day my eyes behold the city, Until the day God calls me home."         ~Stuart Hamblen

Hang in there little buttercups.....spring will soon be here!.....And I....by His Grace will do the same....until at last He shall call me Home! :)

  1. You're very blessed that spring is around the corner for you and not winter, unlike here. But even though that is the case here in Australia, on those freezing days, I'll remember this. Thanks for sharing it!
